Things That Irritated You When You Were A JW
by minimus inthere were some witnesses that loved taking notes for every meeting.
whatever you would say, the note takers were busy as a bee writing down every word.
especially if you went out of town to give a talk, certain ones (only sisters) would take their note taking very very seriously.. another thing that used to get to me was when you'd see the same people every assembly on the platform giving a talk or being in a part.

People who sit there and nod during the whole meeting. Knowing that people can stab you in the back and you just have to take it or "you" don't have the right attitude, "you" are not forgiving,"you" are not Christlike. That the elders can gossip about you behind your back and never bother to get their facts straight. Saying they believe in "education", but getting a major hassle if anyone in your home goes to college Cliques. Shunning. Going to bed every night thinking I don't measure up. Having to tell your neighbors that, yes all the big questions in life are answered in this 192 page book. And all the other ones mentioned above.

BonaFide, this was one of the things that made me realize, I could not do this anymore. For one thing it sacrifices a lot of time, just preparing the talk, even harder when your heart is not in it. I was always afraid I would say the wrong thing because I was so checked out for so long that I wasn't up on every new thought or games of semantics. Then it got to be a lot of topics that I just could not look myself in the mirror and talk about. What, am I going to talk about field service or doctrinal issues that I don't even buy myself? I can't "sell" it to anyone else including my kids. So there were many illnesses and work emergencies that seemed to happen on talk nights. Then there was that day in May when I said to myself, I will never set foot in here again. So no I guess I don't give talks anymore. And another thing, I think it is a slap in the face to men that unless you are an elder or ms you can only deliver a bible reading ( at least that is how it was at our hall). Little nine year old girls would give #4 talks, but never a non appointed man. Just bugged me.

Why Grandma wouldn't talk to her grandson.
by compound complex inthat's just it, dear coco... fear.
the religion is not based on love, it is based on fear.
i personally have worked for years to purge myself of the fears within me, and it is not easy by any stretch of the imagination.

Isn't it sad that this woman lost the opportunity to comfort her grandson. If they would only stop thinking about rules and think about what Jesus would do in such an instance.
Dagney, I think your mother thinks she's not worthy because the organization tells her this three times a week. Did you ever notice that there will be a talk about poor meeting attendance, and there you are sitting at the meeting! Or the talk at the assembly about listening and there you are, listening! After a while you just start to believe you could not possibly measure up.

End of days indoctrination
by m0nk3y inok this is like the first new topic i have added in .. forever ..
it would seem that despite all of the research i have done in the past that i have this unshakable fear of this economic crisis fulfilling bible prophecy.
i thought that i had worked through all of these demons, i thought that this was a past nightmare that would no longer effect me.

Monk3y, I have similar thoughts sometimes and I do think it is from a life time of indoctrination. Remember things in our life time AIDS, 911 and desert storm all heralded the end of the world. Even a topic in the local paper is conversation starter about the end of the world. I agree with Penny about the great depression, that wasn't the end of the world. I do think we may all have to live differently, but that might not be such a bad thing either.

Happy Birthday!!!! No there has been no change in the organization. My parents never acknowledged my birthday. Now I have children and the day goes un noted by them. I say they got by pretty cheap all those years. No birthday, no Christmas, no Easter baskets, no Halloween costume, no dresses for dances and no college education.

Whether you think home work is just busy work or not, it is a hoop that must be jumped through to get from point A to point B. Going to meetings(only to be told education is not important) two night s a week and being out until 2200 is a huge roadblock along the way.
